The Access Services Department supports the missions of Virginia Tech and the University Libraries in its effort to efficiently provide access to knowledge and information in a variety of formats and platforms.
Access Services is pleased to announce several new initiatives that will be implemented in Spring 2012.
The mission of University Libraries Assessment is to identify patron needs through assessment and collaborate with as well as serve local, state, and national communities by maintaining, improving, and creating beneficial programs and services. This ongoing assessment helps all library staff take action, monitor and improve our services, identify changing patterns in users’ needs and information usage, and help market and promote library collections and services.
The Circulation / Reserve unit encompasses the services of circulation, reserve, photocopy, Study Café information desk, and building security, and is responsible for circulating general collection and reserve materials, fines and billing, recall requests, and ensuring Newman Library is closed securely each night.
The mission of the Interlibrary Loan department is to support the research and teaching needs of the Virginia Tech academic community, by expanding the range of materials available beyond the physical and electronic collections of the University Libraries. The department provides loans and articles from a vast network of libraries and document suppliers on a local, statewide, national, and international basis.
Photocopy provides printing, scanning, faxing, in addition to copying services.
Shelving, Storage, and Courier Services maintains access to library materials via collecting, sorting, routing, retrieval, delivery, and filing of library collections.
On the first floor of Newman Library, the Study Café Information Desk provides general patron assistance and basic checkout services.
