Main Content

The Writing Center is located in Newman Library's second floor Learning Commons, just past the elevators. It is open to all Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff, at all levels. We work with writing and reading assignments from any course in the University. We can also help you with writing projects that are not linked to classes. The Center is free and open for regular appointments or walk-in sessions. While we try to accommodate walk-in sessions when possible, we strongly encourage you to make an appointment.

What students can expect

As Writing Center coaches, we won't proofread or "correct" your papers, but we will offer one-on-one instruction in writing at all levels.

What you might bring to a session

  • An assignment sheet
  • Questions and thoughts about what you would like to do next with your writing
  • Your paper
  • New Ideas: We can help you work on the writing and reading issues that really get in your way

What instructors can expect

We won't proofread student papers, but we will work with your students on issues of proofreading and editing. We can also help with brainstorming, organization, development, writing from research, and much more at any stage of the writing process. We work best with students who come on their own and make a commitment to come weekly whether or not they have an assignment due.
