The Virginia Tech Libraries has licensed a small selection of databases (sources of journal articles and ebooks) for use by Virginia Tech alumni. While most of our databases are licensed solely for use by current students, faculty, and staff, these select databases combined with our vetted list of freely accessible, scholarly databases and the licensed databases available to you through your local public library provide a wealth of academic, consumer, and business publications and data.
We control access to these select licensed resources through the Alumni Library Portal Sign In service. By authenticating with your PID and password, the databases will recognize you as a Virginia Tech alumnus and allow access to their content that is included in our subscription (we don't necessarily have access to everything through a given database).
Use the Alumni Library Portal Sign In button on our Alumni Portal pages, enter your Virginia Tech PID and password, then hit the Submit button. If you get a blank screen or an error screen immediately after clicking the button, or after submitting your PID and password, use our Alumni Library Portal Sign In Frequently Asked Questions page which lists potential solutions to these errors.
Authorized users will then pass through to the Alumni Library Portal page, where restricted resources can be accessed. The Alumni Library Portal Sign In button will now display You Are Signed In, to indicate you have been authenticated. If this button changes back to Alumni Library Portal Sign In, you have somehow been disconnected from the service and will need to sign in again.
alumniproxy.lib.vt.edusomewhere in the URL. If you do not see this URL pattern when you attempt to access a licensed database or ejournal, you have been disconnected from the service and will need to sign in again.
LibX is a browser extension that can make reconnecting to a resource via Alumni Library Portal Sign In much easier. If you have reached a licsened resource, such as a database or ejournal, but forgot to use Alumni Library Portal Sign In first, and thus are not able to access the resource, a simple right-click on the page will bring up a menu including a Reload via Alumni Library Portal Sign In option. Simply log in and the page you were trying to access will now work.
See the Alumni Library Portal Sign In Frequently Asked Questions if you have any problems using the service.

Listed here are databases that have no access restrictions (you don't need to be a current student to search them). Some databases provided free access to only a part of their content; check the database description for details.
