As a library patron, you will be fined for returning library materials after their due dates. Additionally, you can be billed for items that you lose or damage. Log in to My Library Account to see the amount you currently owe, but please note that this will not include overdue fines for items currently checked out on your account.
To see the fines associated with specific item types, please refer to the Borrowing page or, for electronics and accessories, the Equipment page. Also note that recalled items accrue fines at a rate of $1.00 per day.
If you do not promptly return an overdue item, your account will be billed for the replacement cost of the item. Once you have been billed for an item, your account is blocked until you settle the bill.
Failure to address bills on your library account will result in those bills being sent to the Bursar's Office. This will result in a hold being placed on your university account meaning you won't be able to drop or add classes, view your schedule, or receive your transcripts until you pay the bill.
All fine payments must be for the total amount owed. Fines can be paid in person, online, or by mail, using Hokie Passport funds or a personal check. Cash and debit/credit cards are not accepted.
If you find and return a lost item that you have been charged for but has not been sent to the Bursar's Office, you can receive a refund. Refunds for previously-paid-for materials will only be reimbursed within within sixty (60) days from the date of payment. The $20.00 processing fee charged by the Bursar's Office cannot be refunded.
