Get a library card

Virginia Tech and VCOM students, faculty, and staff use their Hokie Passports as their library cards.
  1. You need to come to Newman Library in person. Once here, come to the second floor Circulation desk.
  2. Ask the staff for a new borrower card.
  3. Please fill out a new patron form.  You will need to present a valid Virginia state issued photo ID such as a Virginia driver's license, a Virginia DMV id card, or a photo ID from another Virginia college.
  4. Once your account is created, the staff will give you your new library card. You will use this to check materials out of the library. You can also use the number on the card to manage your library account online. It does not give you off campus access to restricted online materials.

When ever you want to check items out of the library, bring those items to the Circulation desk and give the staff your library card.  Should you forget your borrower's card, you may present your valid Virginia state issued photo id instead.  We cannot check out items using any verbal confirmation of information.

Minors can get a card, but they need to have their parent or guardian present when getting the card. Minors also need to present a valid photo ID. Please be aware that minor accounts are subject to the same fines and restrictions as all other library accounts.

Generally, Virginia patron accounts are removed after 6 months of inactivity.
