Newman Book Runner

Faculty delivery service

Faculty can use the green request button found next to select available items, and we will go into the stacks for you, find the book you’re looking for and deliver it to your department on campus.

You have to be part of a department that has opted-in to this service before we can deliver to your campus location. We are not currently accepting new departments, but we will be adding any departments that want to participate for the fall semester. Email us if you would like to use this service next semester.

Requestable materials

Items that can be requested are as follows: CDs, serials, scripts, juvenile books, and any book that is in the regular collection at Newman Library.

For this service only, we will also pull and deliver booked media materials that you need for class use. To do this, you have to use our online booking form. Please request media materials as far in advance as possible, so we can ensure that they are available when the time comes that you need them.

Books on display, new books, popular reading books, and bound journals are not eligible for this new service; you will still need to retrieve these items on your own.

Delivery

Requested items will be pulled by staff at Newman twice a day during the regular week, and once on Saturday and Sunday.

Your requested items should be delivered to your department within three days of your request (deliveries are made each weekday the university is open). Please note that we will check these items out to you prior to our deliveries. If we are unable to deliver your items, we will try again on the next delivery. If we are unsuccessful again, we will place the items on the hold shelf at the Newman Circulation Desk and notify you via email.

We will only deliver items you request to the location associated with your department as indicated by the paperwork that was submitted to us by your department head.

If you are not part of a department that has opted-in to this service, your requested items will be put on the hold shelf at the Newman Circulation Desk. You will be notified by email once they are ready to pick up. If your office is located in either Cowgill Hall, or the Phase III building of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, we will deliver your books to the branch library in your building. You will be able to pick them up as you would any hold book at that point.
