Collection Management

The mission of the Collection Management Department at Virginia Tech is to:

  • advance Virginia Tech’s efforts to achieve excellence as a comprehensive land-grant university and provide for the needs of the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • build and manage a collection offering the breadth and depth of subjects, formats and languages necessary to support diverse fields of scholarly endeavor
  • expand and improve access to information, leveraging new technologies and products to enhance our users’ experiences
  • utilize available resources in an effective and fiscally responsible manner.

Collection Management mission

The mission of the Collection Management Department is to build and maintain the general library collections in all formats. Besides building library collections - largely through the efforts of the College Librarians - the department is responsible for shelving, stack maintenance, and loose leaf services.
