Import process

  1. Run search, mark records by using the Check item box.
  2. Click Add to My Marked Citations and then select the Email/Download/Save/Print My Marked Citations button.
  3. Hit GO and choose format.  The default is Citation Only but you can also choose Citation + Abstract.
  4. Click on EXPORT/DOWNLOAD to Citation Manager and select EndNote format.
  5. You are asked to Open or Save the EndNote Import File citmgr.enw. Choose Open, select your EndNote Library (if already open, no need to select), and the records are automatically imported.

    The first part of this class will cover the most commonly used functions in EndNote, showing how to import references from online databases and use them in a Microsoft Word document with Cite While You Write. The second part will cover syncing references between desktop and online, using online groups for collaboration, and direct export and capture using the EndNote online browser plug-ins.

Download EndNote (from campus network)

The university has a site license for the EndNote product and makes it available to all Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and students.

This product may be installed on any machines owned by the University. You may install it on personally owned machines if you are a graduate student, undergraduate student, faculty member or staff member of the University.

You have to be connected to the campus network, including the Virginia Tech VPN, to download EndNote  from the Software Distribution Office site. Once downloaded and installed, check periodically to see if there have been updates.
