Books (also called monographs) is any non-serial publication (not a newspaper, magazine, or journal) about a particular subject, usually written by a single person. While serials are received multiple times (each time a new issue is published), books are received only once (at least until a new edition is published). Scholarly books often include extensive bibliographies. Books can be found in multiple formats (such as audio books or ebooks). The tools used for locating books can also locate manuscripts, or unpublished works. These un-reproduced works are often one of a kind.
Locate books, journals, government documents, DVDs, and other materials available in and through the Virginia Tech libraries. Some of the electronic materials linked through the catalog are available to the public (e.g. government documents) while others are for VT affiliated users only (e.g. online journals).
Some of the collections and resources available through Addison
Request the items you need that are not found in Addison or via the electronic collections listed below through ILLiad. This is a free service available to current Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff, but you must create an account in order to request materials.
You can use ILLiad to request items found in these catalogs if Virginia Tech does not own them.
Search as in Addison: keyword, author, title, subject. Also search the LoC's Print and Photographs Online Catalog or its Sound Online Inventory & Catalog (SONIC).
As a member of the Center for Research Libraries, Virginia Tech offers extended borrowing through interlibrary loan.
The Blacksburg branch is located at the corner of Miller and Draper, just blocks from Newman Library.
