JCR - Journal Citation Reports from ISI Web of Knowledge
Journal Citation Reports is a comprehensive and unique resource that allows you to evaluate and compare journals using citation data drawn from over 11,000 scholarly and technical journals from more than 3,300 publishers in over 80 countries. It is the only source of citation data on journals, and includes virtually all areas of science, technology, and social sciences. Journal Citation Reports can show you the:
- Most frequently cited journals in a field
- Highest impact journals in a field
- Largest journals in a field
Citation and article counts are important indicators of how frequently current researchers are using individual journals. By tabulating and aggregating citation and article counts, JCR offers a unique perspective for journal evaluation and comparison.
Journal Citation Reports is published annually (usually in June, i.e. the 2010 data will be available in June 2011) in two editions. JCR Science Edition contains data from over 7,300 journals in science and technology. JCR Social Sciences Edition contains data from over 2,200 journals in the social sciences.
The year that you select is the JCR year. All of the data that you see for journals and subject categories come from journal data published in that year. For example, if you select JCR Science Edition 2006, and you search for a particular journal, you will see the 2006 data for that journal, including:
- Number of articles published in the journal in 2006
- Number of citations to that journal from articles published in 2006
- Impact Factor calculated from 2006 data, and so on
