Almost 98% of Virginia Tech's Ebooks on EBSCOhost collection is downloadable. Those downloadable ebooks can be read offline on compatible e-reader devices or your computer.

How to download ebooks on EBSCOhost to portable devices/e-readers

  1. Download an ebook title from EBSCOhost by clicking on the "Download" link on the search result page or from within the detailed record
  2. Sign in to your My EBSCOhost account (or create a new account)
  3. Select your preferred checkout period and click "Checkout & Download"
  4. Drag and drop the title icon to your portable device
  5. Read your ebook on your portable device*

*In order for a portable device to be used with ebooks on EBSCOhost, it must be compatible with Adobe Digital Editions, which can be downloaded for free. Adobe provides a list of supported devices.

Popular devices that are compatible with Ebooks on EBSCOhost include

  • Barnes & Noble NOOK
  • Sony Reader Daily Edition
  • Sony Digital Readers (PRS-300, 505, 600 and 700BC)
  • iPad® (works with third-party applications BlueFire and Txtr)

How to view ebooks on EBSCOhost on your computer through the web-based interface

  1. Download an ebook title from EBSCOhost by clicking on the "Download" link on the search result page or from within the detailed record
  2. Sign in to your My EBSCOhost account
  3. Select your preferred checkout period and click "Checkout & Download"
  4. Ebook is downloaded and viewable via Adobe Digital Editions* on your computer

*This free software can be installed from the Adobe website, if not already on your computer or device.

Some of our downloadable ebooks use Abobe Digital Editions to set expiration periods; here's a list of compatible devices.We do not provide support for loading ebooks onto your device.
