The Virginia Tech Libraries provide nearly 50,000 ebooks on the EBSCOhost platform, of which only 1100 are not downloadable for offline/e-reader viewing.
Unlike many other ebooks sites, Ebooks on EBSCOhost only allows one user to access an ebook at any given time. While an ebook is being viewed by a user, or while it is checked out or downloaded by a user, no other person can use that ebook. (You can place a hold on these in-use ebooks and be notified when they are available for your use.)
You can create a My EBSCOhost account, which will allow you to designate a list of favorites, make notes in individual ebooks, place holds on in-use ebooks, and customize your account preferences. You do not need to create an account to view ebooks online.
Yes, about 98% of these ebooks can be downloaded for offline use. The checkout period is three days, after which the ebook file will expire.
Any Adobe Digital Editions compatible device, including iOS, Android, Nook, and Sony Reader. (Individual pages saved as PDFs can be read on Kindles.)
