You can search more than one EBSCOhost database simultaneously by starting in a single database, using the Select Databases link and choosing additional databases to search. You can view the additional databases alphabetically or grouped by subject. We suggest using the Detailed View link to see a complete list of EBSCOhost databases with descriptions to guides your choices. Searching multiple EBSCOhost databases is most useful when the selected databases share a common thesaurus or set of subjects or descriptors.

You can search multiple Engineering Village databases simultaneously. Since all of the databases that use this interface are engineering related, all of the advanced searching options are available, even when searching multiple databases. Select databases at the top of the search screen.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar indexes content from many databases, ejournal providers and publishers, academic repositories and other sources, including many of the sources provided to Virginia Tech through library subscriptions. (Google Scholar does not, however, state which sources are included or how often they are updated, though you can see results from many academic publishers and societies in the search results.)

Use the MetaLib federated search engine from the Government Printing Office to search across multiple government databases simultaneously (currently 53 databases, including reference databases, digital repositories, or subject-based Web gateways) to find reports, articles, and citations.

ProQuest databases

You can search multiple ProQuest databases simultaneously (the historical databases, including American Periodical Series Online and the historical newspapers New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times can be searched together, but not in conjunction with the non-historical ProQuest databases). The two subsets of databases are also listed as ProQuest Historical Periodicals and ProQuest Recent Periodicals.

Users simply submit a single query into the search engine to launch simultaneous searching of the databases and portals of participating nations. Results are returned in relevance-ranked order.
