When you are using the Virginia Tech network, subscribed resources like databases, ejournals, and ebooks automatically recognize you as part of the Virginia Tech community. When you use a different ISP while off campus, you'll need to go through an extra step to be recognized as part of our community and gain access to these resources.
After you have searched for an article in a database, you'll want to access the actual article. Some, but not all, of our databases will include full-text articles. When the article needed is not available in the database, look for the Get VText button or link to access the article elsewhere.
These pages are primarily aimed at Virginia Tech students who are currently enrolled in classes (or thesis/dissertation credit) being offered at a remote site (e.g., Graduate Centers) or offered online and to faculty and staff working at a Virginia Tech remote site (e.g., Graduate Centers, Extension offices, ARECs, Equine Medical Center, etc.).
There are times when you will need to request a book (or other materials): when you'd like us to retrieve the book in advance of your visit, when the book is checked out to another person, when the book is located in another library, when you want the library to purchase the book, when you are not a local resident, or when the Virginia Tech Libraries do not own the book.
You can renew books checked out from any Virginia Tech library using My Library Account. Login, view your checked out items, select the ones you wish to renew and click the Renew Selected button. If any items cannot be renewed (because you have reached your renewal limit, or another patron has requested the item) you will be notified with the appropriate error message. (Books checked out from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan may be renewed through ILLiad, if renewals are allowed by the lending library.)
