Find and use books

Use Addison, the library catalog
This page provided tips and tricks for searching for materials and using features in Addison, the library catalog.
How to read call numbers (PDF | 313KB)
We use the Library of Congress call number system for most of our books. You'll need to know how to read that call number to locate the book on the shelf.
Library floor maps
Maps showing locations of collections and service points in Newman and the branch libraries.
Borrow a book
Students, faculty and staff of Virginia Tech use their Hokie Passports to check out books. (Other patrons can register for a library card.) The checkout period, the number of renewals, and any fines for overdue materials depend on your current status.
Request a book
There are times when you will need to request a book (or other materials): when you'd like us to retrieve the book in advance of your visit, when the book is checked out to another person, when the book is located in another library, when you want the library to purchase the book, when you are not a local resident, or when the Virginia Tech Libraries do not own the book.
Place an interlibrary loan/ILLiad request
First time users of ILLiad need to create an account. Otherwise you can login to ILLiad, where you can request books, videos, articles, patents, theses and dissertations, and standards.
