College librarians and subject liaisons
The University Libraries' staff include Subject Librarians known as College Librarians and Subject Liaisons:
- College Librarians work with specific Colleges and have an office in the College and another in the Libraries.
- Subject Liaisons are based in the Libraries. Several departments are assigned to librarians not in the College Librarian Program. To identify the librarian for Economics, Military Science, or Sociology, or to see specific departmental assignments within colleges having more than one College Librarian, consult Subjects A-Z and contacts.
These librarians are available to assist you with your and your students' research. This assistance can take many forms.
- tailoring library class sessions:
- relevant to your course
- to topics of discussion
- to an assignment
- focusing library class sessions on:
- electronic resources
- print periodical indexes

- and much, much more...
- designing effective library assignments (Tips) to maximize student learning and minimize student frustration. With a copy of your assignment, they can identify key resources and provide useful suggestions for a successful library experience.
- creating handouts that provide a starting point to research at the University Libraries by listing selected print and electronic library resources. Many of these handouts are available in racks located near the Welcome Desk (1st floor), and the Information & Reference Desk (4th floor). Many are available in PDF format for downloading.
- making available current web-based subject pages containing information on internet resources. The Internet has quickly become a rich source of information for students and faculty alike. However, it may take a considerable amount of time to find useful and trustworthy information among the millions of web pages in existence.
The Libraries have two electronic classrooms for live demonstrations and hands-on exploration of our resources.
