Welcome to Working with Results in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
In this tutorial, you’ll discover different options for working with your search results in IEEE Xplore.
Once you’ve completed a search in IEEE Xplore, there are a variety of things you can do with the results.
Change the number of search results shown by using the Results per Page drop down menu. The default for IEEE Xplore is 25, but you can also select 10, 50 or 100.
The Sort By menu lets you organize results by relevance, publication date (either backwards or forwards in time), and alphabetical or reverse alphabetical by publication title.
You’ll see that selecting Newest First changes the first article on our list.
The Select All function is useful when you’re working with a large number of results, especially for downloading, e-mailing or printing your results by page.
For each entry, the article title is hyperlinked in blue text, followed by the authors, publication, digital object identifier, publication year and page numbers.
The publisher and content type of each result, whether it’s an IEEE journal or conference proceeding, IET or AIP article, or any other type of publication, is prominently displayed in orange text.
If you have instant access to full-text via a subscription, you’ll see a green page icon on the bottom left of the entry.
File-cabinet subscriptions do not feature the green icon.
To browse your search results, click the Quick Abstract icon on the top right of each entry. This will open an expanded view of the citation with a few lines of the article abstract.
You can also view the AbstractPlus page or download a PDF of the article.
Learn more in the AbstractPlus tutorial.
Clicking the Save This Search button will allow you to save your search using your personal account. Learn more in the Saving Searches tutorial.
You can download citations by clicking on the checkbox for articles you are interested in and selecting the Download Citations button. Here you will be able to download citations in a variety of bibliographic formats.
You can also email the results to yourself or another person, or print the results page.
