SciFinder Scholar

SciFinder Scholar is a user-friendly platform for searching chemical literature. It includes all of Chemical Abstracts along with CAS Registry, CASReact, and Medline. Searches can be done for chemical substances and reactions, research topics, authors, and more. Links to full text are also often provided.

SciFinder Scholar is for use only by current Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff according to the following criteria:

SciFinder Scholar is loaded on designated machines in the Electronic Consulting Area of the library near the Torgersen Bridge as well as in the Computer Lab in Room 306 of the Chemistry - Physics Building. You may also download the software below to your machine. Links to web-based help are included. In addition, CAS offers how-to guides and searching tips on their SciFinder Scholar Support Information page.

Off-campus users will need to connect via the campus modem pool or VPN.

Windows 2000, XP, or Vista

256 MB RAM and 90MB of available disk space recommended.

Step by Step Installation Guide. You will need to download both the main program and a second file containing encrypted login information.

65 MB of available disk space recommended.
