What we do for you

  • For all Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff regardless of your location of study or research, we borrow library materials and obtain scans/photocopies of articles from other libraries and deliver these items to you. This service is available for any item not owned by the University Libraries, for items missing from Tech's collections, and for items at the bindery that will not be available within the next two weeks. Simply login to ILLiad and select the appropriate request form.
  • For distant students, faculty, and staff who study and work on the extended campus, we deliver library materials and scans/photocopies of articles owned by the University Libraries to you. You are on the extended campus if your mailing address is outside the New River Valley counties of Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski. Login to Addison to make requesting locally owned materials easy and login to ILLiad to start other requests.
  • For other libraries, we lend library materials and provide scans/photocopies of articles from the Virginia Tech library collections.

  • Hold for Pickup All hardcopy formats can be held for you at one of our three pickup locations:
    • Circulation Desk in Newman Library
    • Northern Virginia Center Resource Center
    • Veterinary Medicine Library
  • Newman Book Runner
    • Available for faculty members in participating departments.  Books are generally delivered the next business day after receipt by ILL to departmental offices; media materials such as DVDs, videos, music, and microfilm must be picked up at the Circulation Desk in Newman Library.
  • Mail to Address
    • Photocopies that cannot be delivered electronically and other non-returnables can be mailed to your address.
    • Books and other returnable items can be mailed to your address if you are on the Extended Campus (addresses outside the New River Valley counties of Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski.)
  • Electronic Delivery
    • Most articles borrowed from other libraries and 100% of locally-owned articles requested by Extended Campus users will be delivered electronically through your ILLiad account.

Our Principles of Service

  • Interlibrary Loan services are available for research purposes to all Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff regardless of location.
  • Extended Campus customers have a single point of contact for obtaining library materials regardless of the location of those materials.
  • Procedures, online forms, and privileges are the same for all customers regardless of their status (faculty, student, staff) or location of study or work (NVC, AREC, geographic area cohort, etc.).

ILL Services for the Extended Campus

Students, faculty, and staff on the Extended Campus should use ILLiad to request delivery of books and articles owned by the Virginia Tech Libraries. If your mailing address is outside the New River Valley counties of Montgomery, Giles, and Pulaski, then you are an Extended Campus customer.
