ERIC documents

The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, produces the world’s premier database of journal and non-journal education literature. The ERIC online system provides the public with a centralized ERIC Web site for searching the ERIC bibliographic database of more than 1.2 million citations going back to 1966. More than 107,000 full-text non-journal documents issued 1993-present are freely available in the ERIC database.

ERIC Documents are identified by the letters ED followed by a 6-digit number. In addition to locating them through the official ERIC database, you can link to them from any of the commercial versions of ERIC as well (EBSCOhost, FirstSearch, CSA).

Newman Library also has a complete collection of ERIC documents on microfiche which can be printed at no cost to you. For assistance in using the reader/printers ask at the Business, Humanities, and Social Science reference desk on the second floor.

The ERIC database includes documents identified by ED numbers and EJ numbers. The EJ documents are ERIC Journal articles and the numbers are used to uniquely identify each one and do not serve a location function. There is not a separate collection of EJ documents. Find these documents by searching Addison or the Journal Title Database by title of publication. If searching one of the commercial versions of ERIC, click on the Get VText link. If there is no online availability, click on the Addison link to check print holdings and on ILLiad when there is no local availability in any format.
