Library tours can be scheduled for classes or groups in order to familiarize them with Newman Library. Locations and services are highlighted. For more information about these options, please contact Neal Henshaw.
During the fall and spring semesters, tours will be given to library patrons on the following schedule. Meet a staff member at the Lobby Welcome Desk. The tour takes approximately one hour. A short quiz follows the tour that can be supplied to instructors as proof of attendance. Students should attend the tour before their library instruction session.
Tours are offered six times a week, Tuesdays through Thursdays, at 11:30am and 5:00pm, from January 24 to April 26, except during Spring Break.
No pre-registration is required. Meet a tour guide at the main entrance near the benches.
Additional tours may be scheduled for groups (not individuals). If the posted tour meeting times conflict with your schedule, consult others in your class and find a time or two when you can all meet for a tour. Then email nhenshaw@vt.edu at least two days in advance with your requested meeting times.
Schedule an additional class period for a guided tour. Students can receive either the same one hour tour and quiz given during regularly scheduled tours, or we can begin in a library classroom with Addison instruction and end with a shorter tour.
Students can use one of the self-service tour options using either our printed Self-Guided Tour brochure or the Online Tour. Students will not be given the tour quiz, though instructors may request a copy (printed or Blackboard format) to give their students.
