Library Personnel Services will have applications for student jobs available on the following dates for the 2009-2010 academic year:

Wednesday-Friday, August 19-21, 2009 from 8:00am-6:00pm
Saturday August 22, 2009 from 9:00am-6:00pm
Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 12 noon- 12 midnight
Monday-Friday, August 24-28, 2009 from 7:30am-12 midnight
Monday, September 28, 2009 from 7:30am-12 midnight
Monday, October 26, 2009 from 7:30am-12 midnight
Monday, November 23, 2009 from 7:30am-12 midnight
Monday-Wednesday, December 7-9, 2009 from 7:30am-12 midnight
Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 7:30am-7:00pm
Friday, December 11, 2009 from 8:00 am- 6:00pm
Monday, December 14, 2009 from 8:00 am - 7:30pm
Monday-Friday, January 18-22, 2009 from 7:30- 12 midnight
Monday, January 25, 2009 from 7:30am-12 midnight

All applications are to be filled out using a public computer in Newman library. Each department within the library that hires students will search this common pool of applicants. Students do not apply for specific jobs.

Hired students will need to present official documents to fill out required tax forms. These include your Social Security Card or Passport. Leaving these documents at home will significantly delay the hiring process.

Tips for students applying for jobs in the library

  • Be sure your application is complete before you submit. Incomplete applications will be skipped over by supervisors.
  • Include your complete schedule on the application. If your class schedule changes, you can update your application during the period listed above.
  • Several departments that hire students are only open during regular office hours (Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm). If you indicate you cannot work any of these hours, you will not be considered for these jobs.
  • List any relevant work experience. Jobs that require interacting with library patrons require good customer service skills. Showing prior experience working with the public, such as retail jobs, is helpful.
  • Respond to interview requests promptly. Supervisors often send email to several applicants when attempting to fill a position. Waiting days or weeks to respond will likely mean the position is filled.
