I would suggest "You are here" stickers on the maps to help us navigate. Thank you.
Thank you for the suggestion. We will be revising the floor maps this summer to reflect some changes in the library and will implement your suggestion when the new maps are posted.

Hey, it would be great if you could put some English and Hindi novels in your marvelous Library. That would really enhance your collections.
At Newman Library, we attempt to collect fiction from a variety of sources and use many book reviews and bestseller lists, among other tools, to aid in book selection. For instance, I look to the New York Times (Sunday) and Great Britain's The Times Literary Supplement for book reviews and lists. Having said that, budget constraints do not allow for blanket purchases, so if we don't have a title you're interested in, please send me a suggestion. Further, as for Hindi
titles, because we don't have a department that teaches the Hindi language, I do not make purchases in the language unless someone has suggested the title. If I come across a bestseller title originally published in the Hindi then translated into English, I attempt to purchase the title. Again, we're happy to hear your suggestions.
Thank you for contacting us.

Remove all chick flicks.
Thank you for your suggestions, we are always interested in the opinions of our patrons. As I am sure you understand that we have to cater to a diverse clientele when it comes to the movies we purchase. Since many of our patrons like these types of movies, we feel compelled to serve their interest, the same way we feel we must servre yours. So don't look for the "Chick flicks to come off the shelves any time soon!!! :-)

Library should be open past midnight during the school year. Most University libraries are.
Thank you for your suggestion. You will be pleased to know that the Library administration is working on a plan to provide a 24 hour study area for students sometime in the Fall semester. It will most likely be in conjunction with the Study Cafe, or some where on the first or second floors. More information on this topic should be released before the beginning of the Fall semester.

I love your new resources page: http://dsp.lib.vt.edu/newbooks/newbooks.php and the many lists you have running off this. I see it is in php and not running off the Millennium server, and that the individual lists are using Majax to include availability data.
I was wondering how you created your initial lists? I am a librarian, not a programmer, but a colleague who looks after the library website has good skills in php so I'm thinking she may be able to develop something similar. I would really appreciate any information you have to give about this.
Thanks
My process is more complicated than I'd like, mainly because I could not use MySQL on this server. I use Create Lists to pull bib records based on CAT DATE. I then export title, author, call number, ISBN, and record number, sorted by title.
That exported text file mis brought into Excel, where some formulas create the link to the record and the book jacket code. A Word macro uses Mail Merge to create a series of TXT files with HTML in them for each subject area. These are uploaded to the server, where the PHP files just insert the appropriate TXT file, depending on what subject is being viewed.
If I had MySQl, I would just dump the entire export file into it each month, and let a query generate each subject area on the fly.
I'm happy to share my files if you'd like.

If it is possible, could the (public) computer keyboards, mouses, and tables be cleaned everyday -- seriously? The Math Emporium cleans their computers, keyboards, and work tables everyday.
Thank you.
We do have them cleaned, when there are honor code violators available. We do not have manpower to clean them everyday!

Can the tables, chairs, and PCs be wiped everyday?
I am sorry, but we do not have the staff needed to wipe all of the tables, chairs and PCs in the Library every day. The custodial staff wipe the tables and chairs as time allows. The PCs are wiped down occasionally by our Systems staff, and more frequently when we have Honor Court students doing their community service in the Library.

Please purchase "The Fall"
We would like to purchase this film, but there are several movies with the same title. Can you give us more information on which film you would like us to buy?
Thanks,
