Jan. 14, 2008 – Musica Viva presents The Cassatt String Quartet in the Marilyn Norstedt Memorial Concert, Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 7:30 pm in Squires Student Center's Recital Salon. Tickets can be purchased at the Squires Ticket Office.

The concert honors the memory of the late Marilyn Norstedt, secretary of the Musica Viva board until her death in 2003. Music was always an important part of Marilyn's life. An avid concert-goer, she played the viola, served on her church's hymn selection committee, and always seemed to function best with music in the background, whether from a recording or Saturday's Met broadcasts. A native of Illinois, Marilyn had degrees from Valparaiso University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Illinois. She worked for a number of years as a children's book editor in New York City, taught at the American University of Beirut, was head of copy-editing for Irish University Press in Dublin, and joined the Virginia Tech Library in the early 1970s.

She not only served the Tech library in various capacities, including that of department head and a member of the team that developed the library's automated circulation system, she was for many years secretary of the Faculty Senate, and her good judgment and impartial demeanor led to service on University committees. She was an avid reader and loved to travel, twice representing Virginia Tech abroad with service in Albania and New Zealand. Given her interests and abilities, her joining the Musica Viva board seemed a natural thing for her to do, and she served this organization with care and diligence. We remember her with great affection.
