Nov. 30, 2009 – Because of excessive shipping delays, increased risk of losing items in the mail, staffing shortages when students leave for the holidays, and the timing of work flow in the OCLC ILL system, most lending libraries will NOT fill interlibrary loan requests from mid-December through the first week or two of January. Some will stop lending as early as the first week of December. Therefore, we will stop most interlibrary borrowing during the Winter Break. Please note the following schedule and plan your research needs accordingly:

Most lending libraries will not resume lending until at least January 4, 2010. Many will not resume lending until January 15, 2010. Some may not resume lending until after the middle of January.

Book loan requests from other libraries

Thursday, December 10, 2009 is the last day to submit requests for book loans. Requests submitted after that date will be held until January 4, 2010 when the library reopens following Winter Break.

Article photocopy requests from other libraries

Tuesday, December 15, 2009 is the last day to submit requests for photocopies. Requests submitted after that date will be held until January 4, 2010, when the library reopens following Winter Break.

Extended Campus customer requests for items owned by the University Libraries

We will continue to process and ship these items during the break when Newman Library is open.

Please continue to submit your requests to ILLiad during the Winter Break. Items to be borrowed from other libraries will appear in a "Held" status until we resume submitting those requests to lending libraries as they reopen in the New Year. We will begin processing held requests on January 4, 2010, depending on the availability of lending libraries.

The Interlibrary Loan office will close at 5:00 PM on Friday, December 18, 2008 and reopen at 8:00 AM on January 4, 2010.

ILLiad will continue to operate during the Winter Break. Please continue to submit requests and access any electronic delivery articles that you have received. When the ILL office is closed, you can arrange to pick up borrowed books and photocopies at the Newman Library Circulation Desk when the library is open by calling our office in advance: (540) 231-6344.
