Addison upgrade: My Lists

Aug. 6, 2010 – A new feature in Addison is My Lists, which allows for creating lists of records and saving them to your account. We have long had the ability to mark records to a temporary list that could be printed, emailed, saved, or exported to EndNote. However, that list would disappear after 20 minutes of inactivity. My Lists are connected to My Library Account, requiring you to log in to that account and choose (or create) a list to add records to. Once created, My Lists remain until you delete them manually or when your account is deleted (after you have left the university or several years of no use). This new feature is similar to the ability to create lists of citations in many of our databases that allow creation of personal profiles.

The temporary list feature is still available, though it has been relabeled from Mark for Export to Add to Basket, to reduce confusion among patrons who assumed the button would export an ebook for print items in our collections. Adding records to the basket does not require logging in, but remember that the basket will empty after 20 minutes of inactivity. Once items are in the basket, you can choose to email the records, view them on screen (and then print them out), save them as a file, and export them to EndNote. You can also add items you plan on requesting (because they are in Storage or have been checked out) and then request them all in one step.

You can add records to My Lists from either a search results screen or an individual record. Simply use the My Lists icon to initiate the process. The first time you use My Lists, you'll be asked to login to My Library Account (unless you have previously logged in). You'll need to create a label for your new list, and can optionally add a description. You can have up to 20 lists attached to your account at any given time.

Once you are logged in, you'll see a popup menu in addition to the My Lists button, so you can select from among your lists or create a new one as you add items.

You can view your lists at any time by logging into My Library Account. Look for the My Lists button there, where you'll see a list of all your lists. From here you can move items between lists, delete them from a list, or delete an entire list.
