Two Oxford Bibliographies Online now available

Oxford Bibliographies Online

Jan. 26, 2011 – The Virginia Tech Libraries have now subscribed to two Oxford Bibliographies Online (OBO):

Oxford Bibliographies Online: Atlantic History lists books, journals, primary documents, web resources, and multimedia on the study of Atlantic history, which examines the transnational interconnections between Europe, North America, South America, and Africa, particularly in the early modern and colonial period.

Oxford Bibliographies Online: Classics lists books, journals, primary documents, web resources, and multimedia in Classics (ancient history, culture, and literature).

Each bibliographic entry includes an annotation and a Get VText link to the source document. Citations can be exported.

  • Saves Valuable Research Time: A 'GPS for Scholars,' OBO is designed to help you navigate through the overwhelming mass of information available.
  • Selective: Turn to OBO with confidence. Each article receives multiple peer reviews as well as editorial board vetting to ensure scholarly accuracy.
  • No Dead Ends: Intuitive linking from OBO citations helps you quickly locate full-text content, whether through a Get VText link to immediately access sources in print or online or through a WorldCat link, which shows which libraries hold the source in question (so you can request it through interlibrary loan if not owned locally).
  • Customization: 'My OBO' allows you to sign in to create a personalized list of citations with your own notes and annotations.
  • Keeps You Current: With new and existing articles added and updated regularly, OBO provides an up-to-date overview of the most recent and authoritative scholarship in a given field.

We have linked to a couple of screencasts for using these bibliographies.
