EndNote X4.0.2 update for Windows now available
Feb. 5, 2011 – The update is available to EndNote X4 for Windows users and includes a number of improvements. Note: You must have a licensed copy of EndNote X4.0 or EndNote X4.0.1 for Windows installed to run the X4.0.2 update. You can download the EndNote X4 installer from software distribution.
Installation instructions
It is recommended that you use Program Updates. Close all programs and turn off any background software, such as virus protection software. From within EndNote, choose "EndNote Program Updates" from the "Help" menu and follow the on-screen prompts.
Alternatively you can download the update (please note that this is a .zip file that contains the .msp installer). To run this installer open the ZIP file and then double-click the MSP file to update your version of EndNote X4.
Improvements in this version include:
- Microsoft Word 2010 64-bit compatibility.
- The Word autogroup no longer changes the current library selection when using Cite While You Write.
- PDF imports now search PubMed to complete citation data with additional fields not found in CrossRef.
- Find Full Text now supports Serials Solutions links [this is what we use at Virginia Tech].
- References edits within the Online Search mode are retained when copied to a local library.
- Inserting a citation into a footnote no longer produces an error in Word 2010.
- PDF files imported from a network now open correctly.
- Maximum record limit error extended beyond 330,000 records.
- Windows registry is now properly updated when adding a Spell check dictionary.
- Improvements to importing references into a copy of an EndNote library.
- Passwords in connection files are now hidden with asterisks.
- Groups – minor search result and UI improvements.
- Quick Edit – minor UI improvements.
- Find Full Text – updated support for Wiley Interscience and other minor improvements.
- PDF Indexing – several improvements to indexing and minor UI changes.
- Cite While You Write for Microsoft Word:
- Fixed several footnote-related formatting issues
- 'Return to Word Processor' command now works with Word 2010
- Focus now jumps to the correct citation in the edit/manage dialog
- Hyperlinks are no longer visible after having been removed
- References are no longer unformatted when ‘author’ is excluded from in-text citations
The university has a site license for the EndNote product and makes it available to all Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and students.
Only on campus users, which includes those connecting to the Internet via VPN, can download EndNote directly from the Software Distribution Office site. Once downloaded and installed, check periodically to see if there have been updates.
