May 15, 2011 – Congratulations to all of our graduates. We frequently get questions about what happens to library access after graduation.
Off campus access to our online resources (databases, ejournals, ebooks) is contractually restricted to current students, faculty and staff. Sometime after graduation, the Registrar's office updates graduates' records to indicate their status has changed from current student to alumni. Once this change has occurred, the ability to login through Off Campus Sign In will cease. These resources can still be used in the libraries (including the NVC Resource Center).
Online access to databases are often provided with public library cards. Here in Virginia, library card holders can use databases through Find It Virginia.
We'll also receive an updated list of students from the Registrar sometime this summer. Students no longer on this list (and without current items on their library account) may be dropped from our system. Anyone with a Virginia ID (like a driver's license) can receive a borrower's card and check out books. Only current Virginia Tech students, faculty and staff are eligible to use Interlibrary Loan.
