July 27, 2011 – The Virginia Tech Libraries owns about 50,000 ebooks that had been hosted on the netLibrary platform. netLibrary has been purchased by EBSCO and these ebooks are now available on the EBSCOhost platform.
All of these former netLibrary ebooks are cataloged in Addison and Summon and the links presented there will automatically redirect to the new EBSCOhost site. One advantage to being available through the EBSCOhost platform is the contents of these ebooks is now cross-searchable with other content on that platform, such as the journals and magazines indexed in Academic Search Complete from EBSCOhost .
About 25% of these ebooks can be downloaded for offline use on your computer or compatible e-reader device. Adobe Digital Editions 1.7.1 or higher is required for offline viewing, which limits the duration the ebook can be used.
As with netLibrary, these ebooks can be used by only one Virginia Tech patron at a time. If you try to access a book that is in use, you'll receive an error message and be asked to try again later. You can place a hold on an in-use ebook so that you can be notified when it is available for you.
