Aug. 18, 2013 – The Virginia Tech Libraries provide several support options for faculty publishing.
Faculty can place pre-publication copies of their journal articles into our institutional repository (green open access archiving). That copy will be indexed in Summon, Google Scholar, and other databases that index open access articles, increasing it's discoverability and potential to be cited. Download counts and other alternative metrics are recorded.
Faculty can also deposit other papers into the repository.
Finding the right journal in which to publish your article can be a difficult process. Here are some criteria to consider and sources for this information:
\Virginia Tech Libraries are pleased to offer, in partnership with the Office of Senior Vice President and Provost and the Office of the Vice President for Research, an open access (OA) subvention fund to subsidize article processing fees for scholarly peer-reviewed articles accepted for publication in open access or hybrid OA journals.
Many of our journal subscriptions and institutional memberships allow for discounts on open access publishing fees.
ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher and, through integration in key research workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized.
