    A powerful cross-platform Open Source combinatorial Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) solid modeling system that includes interactive 3D solid geometry editing, high-performance ray-tracing support for rendering and geometric analysis, network-distributed framebuffer support, image and signal-processing tools, path-tracing and photon mapping support for realistic image synthesis, a system performance analysis benchmark suite, an embedded scripting interface, and libraries for robust high-performance geometric representation and analysis.

    FreeCAD is open source, parametric 3D modeler. Parametric modeling allows you to easily modify your design by going back into your model history and changing its parameters. FreeCAD reads and writes many open file formats such as STEP, IGES, STL and others.

    Patran is pre/post-processing software for Finite Element Analysis (FEA), providing solid modeling, meshing, analysis setup, and post-processing for multiple solvers including MSC Nastran, Marc, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, ANSYS, and Pam-Crash. Patran provides a rich set of tools that streamline the creation of analysis-ready models for linear, nonlinear, explicit dynamics, thermal, and other finite element solutions.

    PTC Creo is a scalable, interoperable suite of product design software that delivers fast time to value. It helps teams create, analyze, view and leverage product designs downstream utilizing 2D CAD, 3D CAD, parametric, and direct modeling.

  • Rhinocerus 3D

        Rhinocerus 3D

    Windows (stations 1, 2, and 7)

    Rhinocerus is 3-D modeling application for rendering, animation, drafting, engineering, analysis, and manufacturing or construction. Rhino can create, edit, analyze, document, render, animate, and translate NURBS curves, surfaces, and solids with no limits on complexity, degree, or size. Rhino also supports polygon meshes and point clouds.

Port computers

  • Use of Port must comply with the Virginia Tech Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Files left on machines may be seen (and changed) by others; personal files and settings can be deleted at any time. Save your work to portable media and/or cloud storage and delete files from computers – protecting your research from loss and theft is your responsibility.
  • Port computers do not all have the same software. Users needing licensed software (nVivo, SPSS) have priority – please accommodate them.
