Media editing

Port offers several audio and video editing programs.

  • Adobe CS6 Premiere Production Suite

        Adobe

    Windows (station #4)

    Adobe's Premiere and After Effects are used by many video professionals (because they integrate so well with Photoshop and Illustrator). The suite includes:

    • Adobe Premiere Pro (video editing environment)
    • Adobe After Effects (motion graphics and visual effects)
    • Adobe Photoshop Extended (image manipulation)
    • Adobe Audition (audio editing environment)
    • Adobe Prelude (logging and ingest)
    • Adobe SpeedGrade (color grading and finishing)
    • Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (export videos to sites and devices)
  • Audacity

        Audacity

    Windows and Macs (all stations)

    Audacity is a free, multi-track audio editor and recorder.

  • Avidemux

        Avidemux

    Windows and Mac (all stations)

    Avidemux is a free video editor, slightly more sophisticated than Windows Movie Maker or iMovie.

  • Blender

        Blender

    Windows and Mac (all stations)

    Blender is a free 3D animation program. t supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline‚ÄĒmodeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation.

  • Camtasia Studio

        Camtasia Studio

    Windows and Mac (Windows on stations 2 and 7, Mac on station 3)

    Camtasia Studio is screen recording software. You can use it to create screencasts and tutorial by recording the action on your screen, along with narration.

  • Final Cut Pro

        Final Cut Pro

    Mac (stations 1 and 10)

    Final Cut Pro is high-end video editing software used by many professional. It has a powerful content organization tool, multiple filters and effects, and many import and export options.

Port computers

  • Use of Port must comply with the Virginia Tech Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Files left on machines may be seen (and changed) by others; personal files and settings can be deleted at any time. Save your work to portable media and/or cloud storage and delete files from computers – protecting your research from loss and theft is your responsibility.
  • Port computers do not all have the same software. Users needing licensed software (nVivo, SPSS) have priority – please accommodate them.
