Book and book chapter metrics

Citations for books and book chapters are not tracked as well as journal articles. In some disciplines, book reviews (and where those reviews were published) may be more important than cited references. These tools may be more useful than the traditional cited reference tools.

World Cat indexes citations of books, journal articles, newspapers, magazines, computer programs, maps, musical scores, videotapes, and websites. This database contains all the records cataloged by OCLC member libraries, including Virginia Tech.

WorldCat will list libraries around the world that hold copies of books. Comparisons if these holdings with similar books can provide a measure of impact of the publication.
