General Information
Special Services is an assistive technologies facility geared toward providing equal access to all students, faculty, and staff. Special Services helps the university support a wide array of accessible learning technologies and computer-related disability accommodations.
Support for assistive technologies within the university libraries includes:
- Screen magnification and color filtering software
- for printed text or Braille input conversion
- Assisted reading and writing software with text-to-speech support
- Voice recognition software
- Alternative input devices, keyboards, and trackballs
- Adjustable room lighting for accessible workstations

Hours
For Virginia Tech students, faculty, or staff trained on the use of equipment and software, the Special Services room is available when the library is open. You will need to use your Hokie Passport to access the room.

Special Services is located in Room 110 on the first floor of Newman Library (turn left in lobby, go up ramp before elevators; entrance to Room 110 is on the right past the Circulation Desk).
