Changes to network addresses in National Capital Region affects access to databases

Virginia Tech Research Center - Arlington The Virginia Tech Research Center – Arlington was designed as a nucleus for discovery to expand the university's capability for new scientific inquiry and to extend its footprint in the National Capital Region. In close proximity to government agencies and other public and private-sector organizations, the location offers great opportunity for partnerships with corporate research entities. Research in the center is organized around five focused themes: Cyber-security; Medical Technologies and Imaging; Policy Informatics; Alternative Energy; and Global, National, and Community Security. July 18, 2013 – Internet Protocol (IP) addresses in the National Capital Region are in the process of being changed. Since the majority of the libraries subscribed resources (databases, ejournals, and ebooks) use IP addresses to determine whether a user has access, until we can update these addresses with our vendors and database providers, users in the affected areas will need to make use of Off Campus Sign In.

We have been informed these buildings/complexes will be changing their IP addresses:

  • Equine Medical Center
  • Occoquan Lab
  • 900 N. Glebe, Arlington
  • 1021/1001 Prince St., Alexandria
  • 901/1601 Prince St., Alexandria
  • Northern Virginia Center, Falls Church

Library staff will have to change the configuration for hundreds of providers/platforms. This will take some time. If you are attempting to access a database, ejournal, or ebook and are asked for a password or payment, try using Off Campus Sign In and see if that enables access. We recommend installing our LibX plugin to provide a right-click menu for reloading a page you are currently viewing through Off Campus Sign In.
